BBC WALES USES CRYSTAL VISION INTERFACE FOR STUDIO C1 UPGRADE (March 2005)

BBC Wales has chosen Crystal Vision equipment for the upgrade of one of its main studios to digital, with 31 boards providing the interface for a new vision mixer.

The broadcaster bought 13 DDAA246 dual monitoring encoders, seven DEC104S decoders, five TANDEM-110 embedders and de-embedders, three ENC116 encoders, two SYN102 synchronisers, and one SW222 routing switch.

The DDAA246s are being used to feed the analogue matrix for the picture monitors, and the TANDEMs are de-embedding the audio from the central technical area router and embedding the studio output to feed back to the central technical area.

The equipment has been installed in studio C1 at the Cardiff television station, a drama studio which is also used for light entertainment programmes, election programmes and “Question Time”. The facility is in the advanced stages of conversion from analogue to SDI video.

The modules are housed in one of the popular new Indigo 4 4U frames, as well as an Indigo 2 2U frame.
